Casino's New Hotspot, The Royal is Open!

Casino's New Hotspot, The Royal is Open!

After sitting vacant for six years, the Royal Hotel on Walker Street, Casino has a new look and the official opening took place on Thursday 10th April. The large beer garden is set with white tables and chairs, cushions and umbrellas in earthy tones and likely the largest outdoor TV screen in Casino (5m by 3m), ideal for watching important sports events.

The decor is light and breezy and the whole place has a holiday vibe about it. The deep blues, forest green and rust colours are used in the garden, dining room, the front bar and extend to the exterior of the accommodation building. The Royal Hotel was bought by Casino RSM which means it will operate under club rules — this includes signing in when you enter. After that, it’s nothing like the RSM Club.

Casino RSM Club chief executive John Walker said it will attract a different crowd and thinks younger people are going to like it. The hotel was built in 1948, and its makeover is complemented by a new menu featuring items such as bowls of Chick Jagger, Beef & Leaf, Hallouminous and Gone Fishin’ — these are billed as ‘all the fun, no bun’. On the burger list (with a bun) is Say Cheese, You Bacon Me Crazy, Take the Bait, Big Dog Energy, Holy Cow, What the Cluck, Buzz Leafyear, Notorious P.I.G. and The Steak Out. There is more— fries, buffalo wings, pork belly bites, salt and pepper calamari and crumbed camembert.

Mr Walker said the prices for food and drinks are similar to the RSM Club. The pub has intimate places to sit (plush couches), a corner outdoor seating area that overlooks Walker and Canterbury streets (bound to be a coveted place to sit) and a long stretch of windows that open up and look out onto the street.

There is a non-smoking gaming room and a separate smoker’s gaming room plus a small area for smokers with outside ventilation. A special airlock door reduces the smell of smoking entering the rest of the pub. The hotel has 10 rooms, totally modernised with ensuites and available from $145 a night.

The Royal is at 130 Walker Street, Casino and will be open seven days a week 11am—late.
